Middle East Emergency Appeal

The situation across the Middle East is changing fast, but I want to share the latest from the UN World Food Programme (WFP).

WFP teams are already providing emergency food to families fleeing the latest escalation in conflict. We have activated emergency preparedness measures across the region and are ready to scale as needs develop.

We are also doing everything possible to maintain existing support for people facing hunger.

I know you will be concerned for children and families across the Middle East. Your support is urgently needed to provide food and support.Help families nowHere is a snapshot of the challenges we are facing in the region:

Lebanon

  • Figures indicate nearly 30,000 people have been displaced but we believe this total will climb much higher.
  • WFP is providing bread, hot meals and ready-to-eat food for displaced families seeking safety in shelters.
  • We are working with the Government to set up an emergency cash payments safety net, to be activated if the situation deteriorates further. This will help 100,000 vulnerable people buy lifesaving food.

Gaza

  • Humanitarian needs remain extremely high.
  • The fragile progress achieved after the ceasefire risks being lost due to intermittent closures of access points.
  • WFP is continuing to provide emergency meals and food parcels whenever possible.

I will update you on any further developments as soon as I can. Until then, please know that we are deeply grateful for your support.

With thanks, Halcyon Garrett

About borderslynn

Retired, living in the Scottish Borders after living most of my life in cities in England. I can now indulge my interest in all aspects of living close to nature in a wild landscape. I live on what was once the Iapetus Ocean which took millions of years to travel from the Southern Hemisphere to here in the Northern Hemisphere. That set me thinking and questioning and seeking answers. In 1998 I co-wrote Millennium Countdown (US)/ A Business Guide to the Year 2000 (UK) see https://www.abebooks.co.uk/products/isbn/9780749427917
